Gender Action Plan
Unfortunately, there is still a serious under representation of women in photonic science, engineering and technology. Many reasons are also based on the social structure and childcare support in the different countries and it goes beyond the scope of this network to change this. However, it is a fact that many women scientists and engineers feel isolated and less supported than their male colleagues. It is the goal of this network to increase the support and visibility of the woman scientists in our NoE and help them to get to know more women scientists.
Shadowing Days
Shadowing is an activity where girls between 14 and 16 years of age are invited in a company or institution to follow for a day a female engineer as she goes in her daily duties. The idea is to present the girls with the richness and variety a career in ICT may have and to encourage them to choose such a career. Shadowing aims to demystify technology, break down stereotypes and pass the message that careers in ICT are open to both men and women as well as rewarding and fun.
Epixnet partners are organising Shadowing Days!
