The "European Network of Excellence on Photonic Integrated Components and Circuits" is an European FP6 research project.

ePIXnet provides a platform to its academic and industrial partners for sharing and integrating research facilities and research know-how in the field of photonic integrated components and circuits.

The primary objective is to build long-lasting relationships in which the partners can focus on their core competence in terms of their resources and infrastructure while relying on other partners for complementary competence and infrastructure. As a secondary objective the academic partners will join forces to develop international master programs and doctoral schools in the field of photonics.

The leading thread of this network of excellence is photonic integration. The integration of complex or high performance photonic functions will become the key enabler for a cost-effective and ubiquitous deployment of photonics in a wide range of applications, including ICT-applications, sensor applications and medical applications.
